A leading poetry organization
Poet in the City is one of the UK’s leading poetry organizations. Its mission is to bring poets and communities closer together, which it achieves through producing multi-disciplinary projects that use poetry to animate moments of cultural and social change, amplify marginalized voices, and create dramatic poetry experiences in arts venues and everyday spaces.
Audiences are at the heart of Poet in the City; the organization works with a thriving community of volunteers and leads a talent development program for 16-25 year-olds to train the next generation of poetry producers.
Poet in the City collaborated with the Adrian Brinkerhoff Poetry Foundation to curate and produce a series of poetry films that showcase classic and contemporary poets from the UK, Ireland and US. Leading British actors such as Simon Callow, Juliet Stevenson and Paapa Essiedu feature alongside contemporary voices in poetry such as Kayo Chingonyi, Liz Berry and Theresa Lola to complete the series. Directed by filmmaker Matthew Thompson, these films invite the viewer into the world of the poem while uncovering some of London’s most hidden gems.
